As the originator of the copper table top movement is the leader in uniqueness, quality, finishes, selection, innovation, functional designs, reliability, ease of ordering, communications, and on-time delivery.

Centuries-old craftsmanship dating back to before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors is used to cover furniture and table tops with hand-hammered copper. Also revived is the all-but-lost art of yesteryear's blacksmiths, and the addition of textured and chemical patina finishes to our forged iron pieces. Our wooden furniture is one of the highest quality lines being manufactured in Mexico in the category of 'pastoral' or 'country'. The warmth of wood and copper combined with hand-forged ironwork make for a distinctive line of furnishings complimentary to almost any decor.

Recycled Hand-Hammered Copper….
The copper, which is what makes home furnishings line so unique, is melted down from scrap copper and hand hammered into the appropriate size and shape. The copper is thick gauged and is hand hammered in a very dense pattern. This is important as to how the copper wears from abrasion over time -- since the copper is hammered in a tight pattern, the “hilltops” abrade and not the “valleys” causing the appearance of the hammered marks to be enhanced. Other copper tops in the market that are not tightly hammered will abrade and scratch continuously across their entire surface leaving ugly scars which you can not remove. The finishes are superior as well with the reddish & black mottled patina with a sealer to protect the copper that is noticeably superior. If the copper does not have the logo , then it is not the original high quality Mexican copper furniture and tabletop line.

Old Reclaimed Barn Wood….
The wood  used in furniture is constructed using a combination of new pine and old reclaimed pine salvaged from old buildings (old barn wood). It is thoroughly fumigated for a minimum of 48 hours using a gas approved by the EPA and FDA for the fumigation of fruits, vegetables, and wood products. The craftsmanship of the wood furniture is far superior to typical Mexican rustic furniture. The wood panels are free-floating to prevent cracking and warping; the drawers employ wood runners so they do not drop when opened. The pieces and construction techniques are specifically designed to minimize cracking and warping. The iron drawer pulls and door hinges are all hand forged, including the small diamond-headed nails which are individually hand-made.

The finish on the old barn wood is a dark walnut finish which combines very well with the colors in the hammered copper. It has a very smooth and refined appearance. This finish is applied using wood stain, a glaze, and two coats of high quality and durable clear coat lacquer is durable and resistant to water. This rich and high quality finish further sets ' furniture line apart from “typical” Mexican furniture. The dark finish color tone is an exact match of BriWax’s Tudor Brown which is available in U.S. hardware and furniture stores making any necessary touch-ups easy and simple.

A lighter honey toned hand-rubbed wax, the finish originally used by , is also still available upon request. It involves oil based stains combined with three-coats of hand rubbed wax.

Hand-Forged Iron….
The iron used by is heavily forged, cleanly welded, very sturdy, and is designed and proportioned to be functional when compared to “typical” Mexican iron. The finish on the iron is resistant to corrosion and is suitable for use in salt air beach environments. The uniqueness of the designs and quality of construction has resulted in the creation of a product line that combines recycled copper, reclaimed wood, and forged iron in a way that no one else does.

The finishes on the iron follow a six-step process, are of designer quality, and are resistant to corrosion in salty beach environments. This process involves chemically stripping all rust from the iron and sufficiently lowering the surface pH of the iron to maximize paint adhesion; applying a very resistant primer to seal the iron and to provide a smooth surface for the finish; then we artfully apply two to three paint colors to achieve the proper color tone; and finally sealed with two coats of high quality semi-gloss clear lacquer. The result is a very high quality durable finish that further enhances the product line making it far superior to the iron finishes typically done in Mexico (which are notorious for flaking off over time allowing the iron to continue to rust).

We also offer chemical finishes with copper plating on iron. The panels on the Carol Sleigh Bed and the Petroglyph table bases show examples of the “cobrizado” finish. Also, this copper plating when combined with the rust finish offers a nice compliment to the copper tops. This finish process is subject to an up-charge and is quoted on a case-by-case basis. Clients are encouraged to specify custom colors of their choosing. The finishes are smooth, uniform, and do not flake off as is typical of most iron products made in Mexico.

Care Instructions….
The finishes on the copper, wood, and iron employ multiple steps and are all of designer quality and highly durable. To give customers and their clients more information on how to maintain the furniture, hang “care tags” to all pieces. These tags give information on the history and process of the recycled hand hammered copper; the old, reclaimed wood; and how to care for the furniture to keep it looking rich.

Custom Size Copper Table Tops….
Standard sizes are established for the copper tops for the various sizes of table bases; however, custom sized copper table tops are available in just about any size that you specify. Table bases will be appropriately sized to fit the specified copper top. Rectangular and square dining tables can be made in any size, so you simply specify the size required and Copper Instincts will adjust the size of the dining table base appropriately to be stable and to leave enough clearance for leg-room. Round copper tops are made in the standard diameters of 20”, 26”, 30”, 36”, 42”, 48”, 54”, 60”, 64”; and Copper Instincts also appropriately adjusts the size of the table bases.
